William Alison Anders is one of the best NASA astronauts and a retired United States Air Force (USAF) major general. He was born on October 17, 1933. Throughout his career, he’s been able to check off a number of jobs. An electrical engineer, a nuclear engineer, an astronaut, and a businessman. He was a member of the Apollo 8 crew in December 1968, the first three people to land on the Moon after leaving low Earth orbit. In addition to broadcasting live images and commentary back to Earth, Anders circled the Moon ten times with Frank Borman and Jim Lovell. His iconic photograph of Earthrise was taken during one of the lunar orbits of the mission.
Career:
In 1964: NASA selected William Alison Anders as an astronaut with important responsibilities.
During the 1970s: Anders served as the National Aeronautics and Space Council's Executive Secretary,
During the summer of 1973: Anders was appointed to the Atomic Energy Commission, which has five members.
In September 1977: Anders joined General Electric after briefly serving as an AEP fellow.
As Executive Vice President for aerospace for Textron, he left GE in 1984.
On January 1, 1991: Anders was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of General Dynamics.
On November 13, 2008: Anders appeared on the NASA TV channel, to discuss the Apollo 8 mission with Frank Borman and Jim Lovell.
