Rahul Sharad Dravid was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on January 11, 1973. He is a former Indian cricketer and captain who is now the head coach of the Indian national side. Dravid was the head at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the head coach of the India Under-19 and India A teams before his assignment to the senior men’s national squad.
Under his guidance, the Under-19 squad placed second in the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup and won the 2018 and 2019 U-19 Cricket World Cup. Dravid is one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history and is known for his sound batting technique. He scored 24,177 runs in International Cricket. He is also known as Mr. Dependable, and he is also referred to as The Wall.
Career
At 12, Dravid began playing Cricket and represented Karnataka at the Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 levels.
Dravid’s nickname “The Wall” was rated one of the finest five cricketers of the year by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack in 2000 and was awarded Player of the Year and Test Player of the Year at the maiden ICC awards event in 2004. In addition, he was the first non-Australian cricketer to deliver the Bradman Oration in Canberra in December 2011.
Achievement
Dravid is the fourth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket, after Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, and Jacques Kallis, as of December 2016. In 2004, he became the first player to score a century in each of the ten Test-plating countries after completing his century against Bangladesh in Chittagong.
Dravid holds the record for the most catches taken by a non-wicket-keeper in test cricket, with 210, as of October 2012. In the 286 Test innings, he has never been dismissed for a golden duck.
Retirement
In March 2012, Dravid announced his retirement from international and first-class Cricket. He was the captain of the Rajasthan Royals in the 2012 Indian Premier League.
Personal Life
Dravid married Vijeta Pendharkar, a surgeon from Nagpur, on May 4, 2003. Vijeta Pendharkar, like Dravid, hails from the Deshastha Brahmin Community. Samit and Anvay are their two children.
