Neil Percival Young was born in Ontario, Canada, on November 12, 1945. He is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, and musician. Young went to Los Angeles in the 1960s after starting his music career in Winnipeg, joining Buffalo Springfield with Richie Furay, Stephen Stills, and others.
Career
Young has released several critically praised and noteworthy albums since forming his solo career with his backing band Crazy Horse, including Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, after the Gold Rush, Harvest, and Rust Never sleeps. In addition, he was a member of Crosby, Stills, and Nash part-time.
Under the pseudonym “Bernard Shakey,” Young directed films such as Journey Through the Past, Human Highway, Rust Never Sleeps, CSNY/Déjà Vu, and Greendale. He also performs on the soundtracks for the movies Dead Man and Philadelphia.
Achievements
Young has won multiple Grammys and Juno Awards. He was inducted into the Roll Hall of Fame and the Rock twice: once as a solo artist in 1995 and one more time in 1997 as a member of Buffalo Springfield. In addition, young was ranked No. 34 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 best musical artists of 2000. According to Acclaimed Music, Young is the seventh most famous musician in the history of popular music.
His long career is defined by his guitar work, profoundly personal lyrics, and signature high tenor singing voice. He also plays harmonica and piano on many of his CDs, combining folk, rock, country, and other musical genres.
Personal Life
Susan Acevedo, a restaurant owner, was Young’s first wife, whom he married in December 1968. They were married up until she filed for divorce in October 1970.
Young was in a relationship with actress Carrie Snodgress from late 1970 to 1975. Harvest’s song “A Man Needs a Maid” was inspired by his encounter with her in the movie Diary of a Mad Housewife. She went in with him on his ranch in northern California shortly after meeting. Zeke, their son, was born on September 8, 1972.
