Pilavullakandi Thekkeraparambil Usha was born on June 27th, 1964, in Kerala. In addition to racing track and field, she is a retired Indian athlete. Originally from Kuttali, Kozhikode, Kerala, she was born in a small village called Kuttali. Since 1979, she has been involved with Indian athletics. Among her achievements, she has won four Asian gold medals and seven Asian silver medals. She is known as the "Queen of Indian track and field". She was nominated to the Rajya Sabha by former President Ram Nath Kovind on 6 July 2022.
Career:
1977: In a sports prize-distribution ceremony, Usha was first noticed by an athletics coach, O.M. Nambiar.
1981: Usha set national records in the 100 m and 200 m at the senior interstate meet in Bangalore with 11.8 seconds and 24.6 seconds respectively. It was at the Los Angeles Olympics that Usha had her most memorable moment.
1985: Usha won six medals - five gold, one bronze - at the Jakarta Asian Championships. In the period 1983–89, Usha won 13 gold medals at ATF meets. As part of the 10th Asian Games in Seoul in 1986. A total of four gold medals and one silver medal were won by Usha in track and field events.
1985 : Asian Track and Field Championship in Jakarta, she also won five gold medals.
She is currently the head of the Indian Talent organization that conducts competitions across Indian schools at the national level
