Hema Mangeshkar, well-known as Lata Mangeshkar, was a playback vocalist from India who also composed songs on occasion. She is regarded by many as one of India's greatest and most influential vocalists. Her eight-decade career in the Indian music industry earned her honorific titles like "Queen of Melody," "Nightingale of India," and "Voice of the Millennium." Although she mostly worked in Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali, Lata recorded songs in more than 36 different Indian languages as well as a few other tongues. She spoke English, Russian, Dutch, Nepali, and Swahili in addition to other languages.
Career:
In 1942: Lata sang the song "Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari" for the movie Kiti Hasaal.
In 1946: She sang "Paa Lagoon Kar Jori" for the film Aap Ki Seva Mein.
In 1949: Her first major hit was "Aayega Aanewaala," from the movie Mahal.
In 1963: In the presence of Jawaharlal Nehru, then Indian Prime Minister, she sang "Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo".
In 2019: A tribute to the Indian army and nation was made by Lata in the song Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki.
Achievements and Awards:
In 1969: Lata was honored with the Padma Bhushan.
In 1999: She was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.
In 2001: She got the Bharat Ratna.
Unknown Facts:
When Lata and music producer Naushad were recording a song, she once passed out. In an interview with Firstpost, she made the same confession and added, "We were recording a song on a long, hot summer afternoon. You are aware of how crowded Mumbai is during the summer. The recording studios didn't have air conditioning back then.
When asked why she doesn't listen to her own songs, Lata Mangeshkar reportedly told Bollywood Hungama that she would notice a hundred mistakes in her singing.
