Deana Kay Carter is an American country music singer-songwriter born on January 4, 1966. Deana Kay Carter's debut album, Did I Shave My Legs for This. Carter dated music video director Chris Hicky and had a son, Gray Hayes Hicky, in September 2004. Carter married Brandon Malone in Malibu on October 3, 2009. A legal separation was filed in November 2012 by Carter and Malone due to irreconcilable differences. Carter married Jim McPhail at the Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach, Florida, on July 6, 2018.

The first big break Carter received came when Willie Nelson invited her to perform as the only female soloist at Farm Aid VII in 1994. The same tape led to a contract with Capitol Records that year.

Deana Carterreleased her first country single in 1996, "Strawberry Wine," which reached No. 1 on Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Have I shaved my legs for this? It was released to great success in North America (with only three of the original tracks remaining).

Kenny Chesney covered Carter's "You and Tequila" for his album Hemingway's Whiskey in 2010 in collaboration with Matraca Berg. Chesney's version, released as the album's fourth single in May 2011, featured guest vocals by Grace Potter.

Carter founded Little Nugget Records in 2013. The seventh studio album by Carter, Southern Way of Life, was released on December 2, 2013. Her record label, Little Nugget Records, re-released Father Christmas in 2013.
