About (Profile/Biography):
Crystal Gayle, born on January 9, 1951, is an American music singer best known for the 1977 hit "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue." She further developed her musical interests during her teenage years. Her musical career began with church singing, folk songs, and demo tapes. Her summer travel was inspired by Lynn, who encouraged her to do so during her high school years. Gayle performed on the Grand Ole Opry at age 16 in place of her sister, who had fallen ill. Her performance was a cover of "Ribbon of Darkness" by Marty Robbins.
Crystal Gayle Career:
• 1970: Her debut single was "I've Cried (The Blue Right Out of My Eyes)," released in 1970. Lynn also wrote this song and reached the top 40 on Billboard Hot Country Singles.

• 1974: A new recording contract was signed by Gayle with United Artists Records in 1974. Her musical style changed under the direction of Allen Reynolds. Gayle was encouraged by Reynolds (who recently produced Don Williams) to record in a softer, mellower style.

• 1982: Crystal Gayle collaborated with Tom Waits on the soundtrack of Francis Ford Coppola's 1982 film One from the Heart. Bette Midler was originally chosen for the project, but she was unavailable.

• 1983: Crystal Gayle released her next album, Cage the Songbird 1983. Gayle's first album was produced entirely by Jimmy Bowen. The Top Country Albums chart peaked at number 5, and the Billboard 200 chart at number 171.

• 2019: Crystal Gayle was one of a dozen performers chosen to open the Country Music Association Awards in 2019. "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" was performed by Gayle at the show's opening.
