Aloe Blacc (born January 7, 1979) is an American singer, songwriter, and rapper known by his stage name Egbert Nathaniel Dawkins III. The most well-known songs of his career are "I Need a Dollar," "The Man," which reached number one in the United Kingdom, and "Wake Me Up," which reached number one in 22 countries, including Australia. Blacc is also a member of the hip-hop duo Emanon with American record producer Exile, in addition to his solo career.
Aloe Blacc Career:
• 1995: Aloe Blacc joined hip hop producer Exile and formed Emanon, a backward version of the Dizzy Gillespie song "Emanon."
• 2006: Aloe Blacc started as a solo artist in 2003 and released two EPs before signing to Stone's Throw Records in 2006 after label head Chris Manak (known as Peanut Butter Wolf) heard him and immediately offered him a contract to release Shine Through.
• 2010: Aloe Blacc released Good Things on Stones Throw Records in 2010. As a commercial success, Good Things was certified gold in the UK, France, Germany, and Australia, among others.
• 2011: Aloe Blacc contributed a track to Red Hot + Rio 2, a follow-up to 1996's Red Hot + Rio, which raised money and awareness for AIDS/HIV and related issues.
• 2012: He joined Emile Omar's band Roseaux in 2012. Clement Petit and Alex Finkin are also musicians. Aloe Blacc sings on all eleven tracks on Roseaux, the band's debut album. The album crossed #92 on the French Albums Chart.
• 2014: A compilation album released in May 2014, One Love, One Rhythm, features Blacc on the song "The World is Ours," released for the 2014 FIFA World Cup 2014.
