Terri Sewell was born on 1st January, 1965 in Alabama. She brought up in Selma, Alabama, and developed a solid sense of civil rights activism from her parents. Sewell joined Princeton University, where she acknowledged a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History.She later produced a Master of Public Administration degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

2002: Sewell began her career as an attorney working in private practice in Birmingham, Alabama. She specialized in corporate law and public finance, gaining valuable legal experience.
2008: Sewell ran for the United States House of Representatives representing Alabama's 7th congressional district. She gets the Democratic primary and went on to win the over-all election, becoming the first African American woman chosen to Congress from Alabama. She has been reflected multiple times since then.
2010: Sewell played a crucial role in advocating for the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare. She was a vocal enthusiast of the legislature and worked to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable healthcare.
2013: Sewell was appointed to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax policy, trade, and healthcare, among other areas. This appointment elevated her influence and allowed her to shape important legislation.
