As an Assistant District Attorney for the 3rd Judicial District of New Mexico, based in Las Cruces, she rose to Assistant District Attorney within four years of gaining admission to the State Bar of New Mexico. In 1992, Susana Martinez was appointed to the position of Deputy District Attorney. From 1997 to 2011, Susana Martinez served as the District Attorney for three terms, and with the help of the Republican Party, joined the party in 1996.
