Ron was raised in Florida's Dunedin and graduated from Dunedin High School. DeSantis continued his education at Yale University, where he graduated in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in history. He then received a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2005.

DeSantis entered the U.S. Navy as a Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG) officer after completing law school. He served as the legal counsel for a U.S. Navy SEAL squad that was sent to Iraq in 2007.
