Marc Garneau was born on 23d February 1949. His tenure as a Cabinet minister from 2015 to 2021 was followed by retirement as a Royal Canadian Navy officer. Garneau served as minister of foreign affairs from January to October 2021 and as minister of transport from November 2015 to January 2021. He represented Notre-Dame-de-Grâce—Westmount in Parliament. He served as a naval officer and was selected as an astronaut for the 1983 NRC group before entering politics. STS-41-G was his first space flight, followed by STS-77 and STS-97.
