About (Profile/Biography):
Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran, well-known as M.G.R., was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu from 1977 till his death in 1987. He was also an Indian politician, philanthropist, actor, and filmmaker. He was J. Jayalalithaa's mentor and the founder of the AIADMK. M.G.R. received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, posthumously on March 19, 1988. In order to help their family, M.G.R. Chakrapani and his older brother M.G. Chakrapani joined a theatrical group when they were young. M.G.R. entered the Indian National Congress under the influence of Gandhian principles.

Career:
In 1953: C. N. Annadurai, founder of the Dravidian Progressive Federation, attracted M.G.R. to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
In 1962: M.G.R. was a leading figure in the Dravidian movement that was sweeping Tamil Nadu. He was also a legislator for the state of Tamil Nadu.
In 1967: He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu at the age of 50.
In 1972: M.G.R. rose to prominence around the same time that DMK leader Karunanidhi promoted M.K. Muthu in film and politics.
In 1984: He suffered a mild heart attack and a massive stroke shortly after he was diagnosed with kidney failure as a result of uncontrolled diabetes.

Achievements and Awards:
In 1965: He got the Filmfare Special Jury award for the film Enga Veettu Pillai.
In 1974: He received an honorary doctorate for his contributions to Indian cinema.
In 1988: M.G.R. was honored with the Bharat Ratna.

Unknown Facts:
MGR had agreed to act in the movie without being paid because the movie's director, C.V. Sridhar, was in financial trouble as a result of a box office failure in his previous movie. However, it was unexpectedly one of the biggest hits of both MGR's and C.V.Sridhar's careers.
He appeared in Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum, the first full-length Tamil new film to be released in Geva colour and a Geva colour film.
