Billie Joe Armstrong is an American singer-songwriter who serves as the guitarist, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter for the rock group Green Day, which he and Mike Dirnt co-founded in 1987. He performs lead vocals for the side projects of Green Day, including Foxboro Hot Tubs, The Longshot, The Network, and The Coverups. Additionally, he plays guitar and sings with the punk rock band Pinhead Gunpowder. He is considered one of the greatest punk guitarists of all time by experts. Armstrong was five years old when he recorded his first song, demonstrating his early musical interest.
Career:
In 1987: Together with his childhood buddy Mike Dirnt, Armstrong founded the band Sweet Children.
In 1990: As lead guitarist and backing vocalist on The Lookouts' final EP IV, Armstrong provided guitar and backing vocals for three songs.
In 1991: Sarah Kirsch joined Armstrong with Aaron Cometbus, Bill Schneider, and Aaron Cometbus in the band Pinhead Gunpowder.
In 2014: Beginning on April 19 at Coachella, Armstrong shared the stage with The Replacements for a series of performances.
