Ritu Kumar, a fashion boss lady from India. With over 40 years in the modeling industry and being one of the most experienced fashion designers in the country, it’s no surprise that her talent is highly sought after. She went to Loreto Convent in Shimla before moving to Lady Irwin College in New Delhi where she graduated. Ritu didn’t stop there though, after her success at Lady Irwin she got a scholarship at Briarcliff College in New York for art history. At Briarcliff is where she finally realized she had more things to learn about art and applied for museology study at Asutosh Museum of Indian Art which was part of University of Calcutta at the time.
Career:
In 1960s & 70s: Ritu Kumar eventually expanded into international markets with bridal wear and evening clothes.
In 1970s: She was interviewed for the Harvard Business School's Creating Emerging Markets project
In 1996: Kumar's company also has stores in Paris, London, and New York as well as in India.
In 1999: She closed her London branch after three years.
In 2002: Together with her son Amrish, she launched the "Label" line.
Achievements and Awards:
In 2012: She received the Achievement Award at the L'Oreal Paris Femina Women's Awards.
In 2013: Indian government awarded her the Padma Shri.
Her business's annual revenue grew to Rs. 10 billion in the 1990s, surpassing that of several other Indian fashion retailers at the time.

She is also part of the founding membership of the AIACA, alongside four other well-known Indian fashion brands.
