He also made costumes for shows and movies. Of the first to do so, he found a way to blend music and fashion together by being friends with people like Elton John and Madonna. In 1973: He was hired to create "Byblos," a popular line for young people by Genny.

In 1977: Versace created Complice for Genny, a different, more experimental line.

In 1978: Versace shot to fame on the global fashion scene as soon as he opened his Milan boutique.

In 1982: One of Versace's most well-known inventions was a kind of super-light chainmail known as "Oroton," which evolved into a signature material in his clothing.

In 1990: He created the costumes for the Capriccio performance at the San Francisco Opera.

In 1985: For his contributions to theatre at the Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK, Gianni received the Silver Mask award.
