Adar Poonawalla, one of the known businessmen was born on 14 January 1981. He heads the Serum Institute of India as its chief executive officer (CEO). He is the company's third-generation owner, founded by his father, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla, in 1966. Upon graduating from Westminster University in London in 2001, Adar Poonawalla joined Serum Institute. Having exported its products to 35 countries, Poonawalla concentrated on developing its own products and securing licenses and pre-qualifications from United Nations agencies, including UNICEF and PAHO, for use by these agencies.
Career:
2011: Upon becoming CEO of Serum Institute of India, he acted as its day-to-day operational management.
In 2013: Serum Institute's manufacturing facility in India was visited by Charles, Prince of Wales, and The Duchess of Cornwall in 2013.
In 2014: The oral polio vaccine he developed and launched in 2014 became a bestseller for Serum Institute.
In 2016: The Serum Institute's headquarters in Pune hosted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2016 to showcase its vaccine and other initiatives.
In 2017: Modi appointed Adar Poonawalla as the Swachh Bharat brand ambassador.
