He was born in 1937 in Shaker Heights, Ohio. As a teenager, he bought old cars, repaired them, and sold them for profit from his Cleveland home. In 1955, he graduated from high school, and in 1959, he graduated from Lehigh University as a Phi Gamma Delta.
Roger Penske Racing Career
Penske's first racing venture was hillclimbing, followed by road course racing in Porsches. His first professional race started at Upper Marlboro, Maryland's now-defunct Marlboro Motor Raceway.
Roger Penske continued racing until 1965 when he retired from driving to focus on his first Chevrolet dealership.

The first 24-hour race was held by Penske Racing in 1966 after Penske retired from racing. His team won the 1972 Indianapolis 500 with Mark Donohue in 1969. In 1973, they won their first NASCAR race. His teams have won many races since then. In 1977, he closed his Formula One business in Europe.
