Germán Larrea Mota-Velasco was born on 8 July, 1941.  He served as CEO of Grupo México, Mexico's largest mining corporation, and the world's third-largest copper producer as of July 2022. Married, Larrea Mota-Velasco lives in Mexico City. His race name is St. George Stable, and he owns Thoroughbreds and breeds them. Letruska became the first horse to win at the Grade I level in the United States after racing in Mexico, winning the Apple Blossom Handicap in 2021.

1999 to 2004: His roles at Southern Copper Corporation have included chairman since December 1999, CEO from December 1999 to October 2004, and director since November 1999. 
1997 to 1992: Germán Larrea Mota-Velasco has been the chairman and CEO of Grupo Ferroviario Mexicano since 1997. Since 1992, he has served as president and CEO of Empresarios Industriales de Mexico, Compania Perforadora Mexico, Mexico Compania Constructora, and Fondo Inmobiliario.
2020: His stake in Southern Copper Corporation now stands at almost $121 million after he sold 100,000 shares in November 2020 for a total of $6 million.
