His contributions are not just significant, but they have shaped the very landscape of this industry. He is the esteemed founder of McCaw Cellular, now part of AT&T Mobility, and Clearwire Corporation, now part of T-Mobile. His mother's name was Marion, and his father's was J. Elroy McCaw.

Craig McCaw, the second of four sons, was born into a family that lived in the affluent gated highland community north of Seattle. Craig McCaw's father was the owner of Gotham Broadcasting Corporation and he was also doing a business of commercialization of Television and radio stations. However, tragedy struck at the age of 57 when his father passed away in 1969, leaving behind a company in Centralia, Washington, with an estimated 2000 to 4000 subscribers and a significant debt that was not sold to repay.
