Carl Celian Icahn was born on February 16, 1936, in New York City, New York. Icahn Enterprises is a diversified conglomerate holding company based in Sunny Isles Beach that he founded and controls. His net worth ranges from $17 billion to $24 billion, making him one of the Forbes 400. He buys large stakes in companies he believes will appreciate as a result of changes in corporate policy and then pressures the management to make those changes. As of 2011, Icahn no longer manages money for external clients, although investors can still invest in Icahn Enterprises.

Graduated In 1957: Carl Icahn graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in philosophy in 1957 after completing a senior thesis titled "The Problem of Formulating an Adequate Explanation of the Empiricist Criterion of Meaning."

1983: His profit from selling the shares of ACF Industries to Phillips Petroleum in 1985 was $50 million.
1998: Carl Icahn led an investor group that bought 5% of RJR Nabisco and pressured the company to separate its tobacco and food divisions.
2004: Mylan announced a $4 billion stock deal to acquire King Pharmaceuticals, and Icahn bought a large block of stock and threatened a proxy fight.
2007: The Carl Icahn family invested in BEA Systems to a 13.22% stake a few months before Oracle Corporation announced its acquisition.
2008: Following Microsoft's rejection of a takeover bid by Yahoo, Icahn bought a large block of Yahoo shares and threatened to stage a proxy fight to remove Yahoo's board.
