Robert Munsch is one of Canada's most beloved and successful children's authors. Robert Munsch was born in 1945, in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Guelph, Ontario, Canada, when Robert was two years old. He attended high school at Bishop Macdonell Catholic School in Guelph, where he was an excellent student and an accomplished athlete.

Munsch went on to study at a number of universities, including Fordham University, the University of Guelph, and the University of Western Ontario. In 1969, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Fordham, and in 1971, he earned a Master of Education from the University of Guelph.

Munsch began his career as a children's author while working as a teacher in a daycare center in Guelph. He would often make up stories to entertain the children, and these stories eventually became the basis for his first book, "Mortimer," which was published in 1979.
