Mary Higgins Clark, better known as Mary Theresa Eleanor Higgins, is one of the bestselling American suspense authors. In the United States alone, her 24 novels have sold more than 80 million copies, making them all chartbusters. Originally from the Bronx, she was born on December 24, 1929. As a result of the Great Depression and the sudden death of Higgins' father, her parents were Irish immigrants who ran a pub. This pub had to be closed by the time Higgins was eleven due to declining business conditions.

1949: Mary Higgins Clark was an international flight attendant for Pan Am; she traveled throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia for most of 1949.
