Lloyd Alexander Early life, Education, Career, Awards, Achievements, Controversy, Unknown Facts

About (Profile/Biography):

Lloyd Alexander, a well-known American Author, was born in Pennsylvania. Mr. Alexander, who wrote more than 40 books, is best known for "The Prydain Chronicles," a series of five novels released by Holt, Rinehart & Winston between 1964 and 1968. The novels, set in a country based on traditional Welsh mythology, chronicle the tale of Taran, a young man so lowly that he only works as an assistant pig keeper rather than a pig keeper himself.

Career:

Alexander studied at the University of Paris after being discharged from the army, where he fell in love with Janine Denni.

Alexander started to believe that working on his project was being slowed down by his residence in Paris.

Alexander recognized that "if I was to create anything good, I would have to be closer to my own roots," as he put it in a subsequent conversation with a spokeswoman for his publisher, Penguin Books.

Alexander continued to write in his spare time and worked as a messenger boy at a nearby bank for the following four years.

In 1943, Alexander decided to participate in the army in search of experiences that would inspire his writing after failing to complete a semester at a nearby college and becoming dissatisfied with his work.

Achievements and Awards:

Alexander's next books received comparable high accolades. The Marvelous Misadventures of Sebastian and Westmark both received National Book Awards in the Children's Books category in 1971 and 1982, respectively.

His tour of duty would take him from Wales to Paris, where, following the Allied triumph, Alexander would serve in a counterintelligence unit.

Unknown facts:

Alexander returned to Pennsylvania in 1947, residing in Drexel Hill with his new wife and children.
