Janet Anne Haradon Dailey was born on May 21, 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa. Janet Dailey (her married name) was an American romance novel author. Nineteen languages have been translated into her novels, and more than 300 million copies of novel have been sold worldwide. Author and entrepreneur Dailey had a successful career in both.
Career:
1974: Dailey's husband challenged her after she claimed she could write a better romance novel than the ones she had read.
1976: As part of its Presents line, Harlequin released No Quarter Asked after publishing multiple Mills & Boon titles.
A total of 57 novels were written for Harlequin by her. Each state in the United States was represented in the "Janet Dailey Americana Series," composed of 50 novels.
The Guinness Book of World Records recognized her achievement of setting a novel in every state.
In addition to writing 12 titles for the Silhouette line, Dailey was one of the early Silhouette writers.
1979: As the first romance author to write single-title romances, Dailey changed from writing category romances.
1998: It was estimated that 80 million copies of her Harlequin novels had been sold.
