Elizabeth Byrd was born on December 8, 1912. An American author, she wrote novels and short stories. She is primarily known for her historical fiction, and her most successful book is Immortal Queen, about Mary, Queen of Scots. While living in Scotland, she published nine of her thirteen novels. In Tucson, Arizona, Joseph Byrd settled after remarrying as a mining prospector and promoter. As a result of her father's second marriage, Joseph Hunter Byrd, Jr. is her half-brother.
Elizabeth Byrd Career:
From 1935 to 1944, Byrd worked for CBS and Columbia Broadcasting System as a radio news writer.
Elizabeth Byrd also contributed to WMCA's "What's News" broadcasts and husband-and-wife breakfast table chats, starting in 1938.
Leaving radio in 1944, Byrd began a new career path as a literary agency associate editor, working until 1950.
In 1951, Elizabeth Byrd founded Betty Byrd Associates, a literary agency.
Elizabeth Byrd also served as a critic for New York City's "A. L. Fierst Literary Agency" during this time.
Elizabeth Byrd’s Romance, a seductive confession magazine, she edited for three years.
Between 1952 and 1960, Byrd wrote jacket copy for the publishing house Julian Messner, Inc. before settling down to write novels.
