Natalie Portman was born in 1981 in Israel. She is the sole child of Shelley Stevens and Dr. Avner Hershlag. Natalie was still quite little, her family emigrated from Israel to Washington, D.C. Her family relocated a couple more times before settling in New York, where she is still presently residing. When she was 11 years old, an agent found her in a pizza restaurant. She was encouraged to pursue a modeling career, but she ultimately chose to focus on acting. She appeared in numerous live performances, but she developed a strong presence.
