Eileen Feng Gu, also recognized by her Chinese name Gu Ailing was born in San Francisco, California, on 3 September 2003. She is a Chinese Olympic freestyle skier who has competed in halfpipe, slopestyle, and significant air events since 2019.
Gu won the gold medal in big air at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, becoming the youngest Olympic winner in freestyle skiing. She also works as a model in the fashion industry.
Career
Gu won two gold medals in Freeski Halfpipe and Freeski Slopestyle at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2021. Gu became the first freeskier to win two gold medals at the FIS World Championships. She also took third place in the Freeski Big Air competition. Unfortunately, she was also hurt at the event, breaking her hand.
Gu won the significant air event in the 2022 Winter Olympics, making him the youngest gold medallist in freestyle skiing history. After Tess Ledeux earlier in the same tournament, she landed her first-ever attempt at a double cork 1620, becoming only the second woman to do it.
Gu also works as a fashion model and is represented by the IMG Models agency. As of January 2022, she has modeled for Fendi and Gucci, IWC Schaffhausen, Tiffany & Co., and Louis Vuitton. In addition, Gu has appeared on the covers of several magazines, including Elle and Vogue China.
Personal Life
Gu was reared in China by her Chinese mother and grandmother and spoke Mandarin Chinese and English fluently. She enjoys playing the piano as a pastime.
Gu disclosed in March 2021 that she had faced animosity since she was 15 years old because of her desire to compete for China, including death threats and “endless vitriol” on social media.
