Toni Cade Bambara was an American writer, educator, and activist. She was born in Harlem, New York, and grew up in various neighborhoods in New York and New Jersey. Bambara earned a BA in Theater Arts/English Literature from Queens College and later pursued a master's degree at City College in New York. She became an assistant professor of English at Rutgers University's Livingston College and taught at various institutions. Bambara was also an accomplished writer, best known for her short story collection, "Gorilla, My Love." She passed away from colon cancer in 1995.
