John Herschel Glenn Jr. was born in Ohio, the U.S., in 1921. He was a Marine Corps aviator, engineer, astronaut, businessman, and politician in the United States. Glenn was the third American in space and the first to orbit the Earth three times in 1962, being the first American to do it. Following his retirement from NASA, he served as a Democratic United States Senator from Ohio from 1974 until 1999, and in 1998, he traveled into space for the second time at the age of 77.
