James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States, serving from 1845 to 1849. He was a Democrat and was known for his strong belief in Manifest Destiny, which led to the Mexican-American War and the annexation of Texas. He also oversaw the acquisition of the Oregon Territory and the establishment of the Department of the Interior. He did not seek reelection and died shortly after leaving office.
