Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie is a British-American novelist who was born in India. His stories are frequently set in the Indian subcontinent and often involve cross-cultural interactions, clashes, and migrations. His work frequently combines magic realism with historical novels. During the 25th and 40th anniversary of the Booker Prize, Rushdie's Midnight's Children (1981) was praised as the "best novel of all winners." Rushdie received many assassination plots and death threats following the publication of his fourth book, The Satanic Verses (1988). Ruhollah Khomeini, the glorious leader of Iran, also issued a fatwa calling for Rushdie's murder.
