Justine Siegemund (1636-1705) was a pioneering German midwife and author of the first published obstetrics textbook written by a woman, "The Court Midwife". Born in Prenzlau, Germany, Siegemund became a midwife after studying under her mother and attending births throughout her youth. Her book, published in 1690, offered detailed instructions on childbirth and was a success in Germany and abroad. Siegemund's work helped establish midwifery as a profession for women and improved childbirth practices in Europe.

1661: Justine Siegemund moves to Guben and begins her career as a midwife.
1663: Siegemund publishes her famous book "Der Königlichen und Churfürstlichen in Brandenburg Medicinal- und Artzney-Kunst Lob- und Dank-Opffer", which later became known as "The Court Midwife".
1664: "The Court Midwife" is republished with additions and changes.
1665: Siegemund moves to Berlin and becomes an officially recognized midwife by the court.
The Court Midwife (1690): "The Court Midwife" is a memoir by Madame du Coudray about her experiences as a midwife in 18th-century France.
