Who was Jane Addams? Jane Addams co-founded Hull House in Chicago, a settlement for pacifists and social activists. She knew many illustrious people, including Abraham Lincoln, whose father was a state senator. Besides women's suffrage, she fought for many causes concerning women and children. As well as being the mother of the nation, this philosopher of public life also strived for world peace during her lifetime. 
Jane Addams Career:
A trip to Europe with her stepmother was planned by Jane Addams in the year 1883 in order to spend two years abroad.
She first heard about Toynbee Hall in London during the summer of 1887, and she decided to go and see what it had to offer. 
The Hull House was the first settlement house to be founded in the United States in 1889 and was founded by both Addams and Starr together.
It was in 1905 that this able activist joined the Chicago Board of Education as a member of the staff. After serving on the school management committee for a number of years, she was appointed to preside over the board.
The National Federation of Settlements was established by Addams in 1911, and he held the position of president for over twenty years, until his death in 1944

Jane Addams Death:
As a result of a heart attack Jane Addams suffered in 1926, her health gradually deteriorated, and she ultimately succumbed to an illness in 1928. In the year of her passing, she would have been 74 years old.
