Gulzarilal Nanda was a politician and economist from India who focused on labour issues. After the passings of Lal Bahadur Shastri in 1966 and Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, he served as India's Provisional Prime Minister for two 13-day terms. After the parliamentary party of the in power Indian National Congress chose a new prime minister, both of his tenure came to an end. Nanda conducted research on labour issues at Allahabad University from 1920 to 1921, then in 1921 he was appointed professor of finance at National College in Bombay (Mumbai).
Career:
In 1957: Nanda was chosen to serve in the Lok Sabha, and after taking office, he was named Union Minister for Labour, Planning and Employment. He later served as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Committee.
In 1962: From the Gujarati district of Sabarkantha, Nanda was re-elected to the Lok Sabha.
In 1962: Congress Forum for Socialist Action was established by him.
In 1964: Nanda served as India's Provisional Prime Minister for thirteen days twice: the first time following the passing of the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
In 1971: He left Congress because of the era's politics.
Achievements and Awards:
In 1997: Nanda was posthumously honored with the Bharat Ratna.
In the list of 42 alumni, he was recognized as a "Proud Past Alumni" under the category of "NCR, Ghaziabad (Greater Noida) Chapter 2007–2008".
