Emily Dickinson Early life, Education, Career, Awards, Achievements, Controversy, Unknown Facts

About (Profile/Biography):
Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830 and died on May 15, 1886. In her lifetime, she was an American poet. Though she was little known during her lifetime, she is now considered one of the most important figures in American poetry. A prominent Amherst family with strong community ties gave Dickinson a solid start in life. As a young girl, she attended the Amherst Academy for seven years before attending the Mount Holyoke Female Seminary for a short period of time.
Emily Dickinson Career:
The Atlantic Monthly published a lead article by Thomas Wentworth Higginson, a literary critic, radical abolitionist, and former minister.
In contrast to Dickinson's prolific output in the early 1860s, she wrote fewer poems in 1866.
During their first meeting in Boston in 1868, Higginson encouraged her to come to the city.
Dickinson's mother had a stroke a year later on June 15, 1875, which partially paralyzed her on the left side and impaired her memory.
Although Dickinson wrote prolifically, only ten of her poems and a letter were published during her lifetime.
Emily Dickinson Legacy:
The achievements of Emily Dickinson were kept alive by Martha Dickinson Bianchi and Millicent Todd Bingham in the early 20th century. During Dickinson's lifetime, Bianchi promoted his poetic achievements.
Emily Dickinson Death:
As a result of a stroke, Edward Dickinson passed away in Boston in June 1874.
