Manuel María Ponce Cuéllar, a Mexican composer, was born on December 8th, 1882, and died on April 24th, 1948. During the 20th century, he was an active Mexican composer. The concert stage was connected to a largely forgotten traditional song and Mexican folklore through his composer, music educator, and scholar work. Traditional songs and harmonies strongly influence his compositions.
Career:
Only a few weeks after his birth, Manuel Maria Ponce moved to Aguascalientes, where he lived until he was 15 years old.
1901: Manuel Maria Ponce was already a well-known pianist and composer when Manuel Maria Ponce enrolled at the National Conservatory of Music.
In 1903: Manuel Maria Ponce returned to Aguascalientes, where he remained until that year. He had only just begun his journey.
1904: Manuel Maria Ponce travelled to Bologna to study advanced music at the Conservatorio Giovanni Battista Martini.
Between 1906 and 1908: Manuel Maria Ponce studied at the Stern conservatory in Berlin under Martin Krause.
The most famous of his works was "Estrellita" (little star), which is not a love song as you might think, but "Nostalgia Viva" (live nostalgia).
There are several arrangements of Ponce's "Estrellita" melody that are still heard today.
