Gregory Hines, the American dancer and actor from New York, is also known for his dance choreography. His dancing helped bring tap back in the late 20th century. With both parents being dancers, including his father who was also an actor and musician, Gregory was raised in a musical household. He started performing at nightclubs with his brother and joined their family band in 1963. Eventually he became a one-man show and played as the singer and other instruments in a rock band.

When Gregory first started tapping, he was just two years old.
When their father joined as the group's drummer in 1963, the name was altered to "Hines, Hines, and Dad."
As "The Hines Kids," the brothers started playing in nightclubs.
Gregory Hines established the jazz-rock group Severance after relocating to California.
