Tom Steyer was born on June 27, 1957. He is co-founder and co-chairwoman of Galvanize Climate Solutions and founder and former co-senior managing partner of Farallon Capital, as well as co-founder of OneCalifornia Bank, which became (through merger) Beneficial State Bank. Steyer ran for president in 2020 but lost after spending over $191 million on advertising but failing to obtain any pledged delegates.

1979: Tom Steyer joined Morgan Stanley in 1979 as an analyst. Morgan Stanley ended his career after two years when he attended Stanford Graduate School of Business.
1986: Tom Steyer founded Farallon Capital 1986, a hedge fund based in San Francisco. Steyer made his fortune running Farallon, which managed $20 billion at its peak. He was known for taking high risks with distressed assets in volatile markets.
2016: Some critics noted in 2016 that Farallon had also invested in private prisons while Steyer led the hedge fund. According to SEC filings, Steyer was responsible for buying nearly $90 million worth of Corrections Corporation of America shares.
2020: Tom Steyer was named chair of a task force focused on the state's economic recovery following the 2019–20 Coronavirus pandemic by California Governor Gavin Newsom on April 17, 2020.
