About (Profile/Biography):
Scott Joseph Kelly is a former engineer, astronaut, and naval aviator from the United States. Kelly served on Expeditions 26, 45, and 46 of the International Space Station. Kelly's first space mission took place in December 1999 as the Discovery's pilot during STS-103. It lasted little under eight days and was the third refurbishment mission for the Hubble Space Telescope. As mission captain of STS-118, a 12-day Spacecraft mission to the ISS in August 2007, Kelly made his second space voyage. He served on Expedition 25/26 on the International Space Station for his third spaceflight.
Career:
In 1993: Kelly was chosen to enrol in the Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland's U.S. Naval Test Pilot School.
In 1999: He was appointed on STS-103 as a pilot aboard Discovery, under Curt Brown's direction, for a mission to improve the Hubble Space Telescope's systems and instal new equipment (HST).
In 2002: Kelly led the NEEMO 4 mission from the Aquarius underwater research facility, which is located 4 miles off the coast of Key Largo.
In 2007: Kelly was given the Expeditions 25 and 26 assignments.
In 2016: His retirement from NASA has been announced.
Achievements and Awards:
In 1999, Kelly earned an honorary Korolev Diploma from the Federation Aeronautique Internationale, and the State University of New York awarded him an honorary Doctorate of Science (2008). On December 29, 2014, Kelly appeared on the cover of Time magazine.
Unknown Facts:
In October 2022, Kelly will become an ambassador of the United24 fundraising platform (@u24_gov_ua) and lead the project "Medical aid".
Kelly is a member of the Association of Space Explorers and an associate fellow of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots.
